Evan Hart, Writer/Director/Actor and FATHER to three girls - Charley, Stella, & Dylan

Where are you from and where do you live now?

I was born in Los Angeles, but grew up in the Midwest. Something like this: L.A. / Omaha / St. Louis / NYC / L.A. I now live in Studio City with my ladies.

How has fatherhood changed your style?

It’s definitely aged me. It’s made me more tired and at the same time, given me more energy. Honestly watching my girls (my daughter and two step daughters) grow up gives me oxygen for the next fifty years. It’s made me more patient, more present and more focused. It’s also salt peppered the hell outta my beard.

What’s your favorite thing about being a Dad?

No way I can have just ‘one’ favorite thing. Watching them grow each day with a new discovery is one of the most rewarding things. My brother and I grew up without our father; we had an active step-grandfather who filled the role but it was a different generation and a very different tone of parenting. Now, finally getting to put on those shoes has given me the greatest appetite for my own journey in parenthood. I love being there for them. Knowing they can’t be prepared for every little thing is hard, but it reinforces my obligation to help get them there… They’re all gorgeous girls but when they’re older I’ll be telling them – nothing is more attractive than intelligence.

Describe your style.

Cool, casual, simple and mood-dependent. I’m not much of a uniform guy, so hopefully one piece of my wardrobe reflects something about who I am… Or at least it doesn’t look terrible. If I am on a new pair of jeans, a new shirt or new treads, then it/they get worn several days in a row. Has becoming a Dad changed your style? How? I suppose a bit. It’s made me feel more comfortable in just about anything.. I care less in some ways and more in others. Now I actually look forward to getting dressed up and looking sharp… I love my kids and love watching them experience life through their own unique prisms – always reflecting something new. But at the end of the day I can still tell them what to do and because of that I feel an ultimate style.

On a Friday night out, we might find you in______?

Out on Friday night? Amazing! If that’s the case I’ll be in something comfortable. Maybe a snug flannel (Sandro or Visvim) some comfy jeans (props to my John Elliot + co and Acne denim) and either some Jcrew Macalister or Chuck Taylor high-tops. If the L.A. weather allows for it, I’m a fan of the black leather jacket or zip up (Marc Jacobs) hoodie. I listed the brands because you asked for it!

On a Sunday afternoon, we might find you in______?

Something even more comfortable. T-shirt, some khakis and vans. I try not to wear denim or anything too restricting on the weekend. We have a pool so a bathing costume is always near by. Sunday is about relaxing. It starts with a trip to the farmers market, maybe a kids party and definitely some lounging by the pool or too close to the television. I change clothes more on Sunday than any other day. Is that weird? Hmm.

Where does your fashion inspiration come from?

Honestly I have no idea where it comes from. My awesome lady Charlotte, on top of already being English, has incredible style. Anything she puts on she looks good in. So I just pretend I’m the same… While living in Manhattan I worked in fashion at Marc Jacobs. I suppose I inadvertently picked up a few pointers. The streets of NY are an easy place to pluck a few and find your style. I think if you come to Los Angeles without any style you could be in trouble. But if you stay long enough maybe you can find some… In truth, the best style is being a dad.

And this from Evan's bro, Taylor Hart.

"Unlike our upbringing... we did’t have a father around, so he learned first hand that showing up and being involved makes you a start to be a good parent. He always has time for his daughter, Charley, and his other two Stella and Dylan. He teaches/shows the girls that they can do and achieve anything if they strive for that and he makes them be accountable. treating your kids like little humans but giving them more slack than we get as adults. its a nice line to draw. He has great fashion style...like both of us, especially for a writer. He’s a pain in the ass brother though, and he’s a Cardinals fan, so those are two strikes." ;))

Evan and Taylor's father passed away a few days ago, so we would like to offer our condolences, thoughts and prayers to them and their family.
